Gerry Jablonski and the Electric Band

Gerry Jablonski Band the grey horse kingston

Fri 12th Nov, 2010 at 9pm,
The Grey Horse,
Tickets £6

Gerry Jablonski, the (almost) legendary guitar hero, 30 year veteran of the music scene has come up with a masterpiece. With the powerful and dynamic rhythm section of Dave Innes on drums and Grigor Leslie on bass, Polish blues harp prodigy Peter Narojczyk takes on guitar master Gerry in an exciting showcase of raw and honest talent. Formed a little over 10 months ago, the band has been playing live dates throughout Scotland. If you have never seen Gerry Jablonski perform live you owe it to yourself to check this guy out – he is the hardest working entertainer in showbiz and always delivers when it comes to displaying electrifying blues rock and the well honed stagecraft of a seasoned performer. With the Electric Band, the blues just got dangerous again. Blending blues roots with the influences of Classic Rock Gerry and the boys make this a blistering powerhouse of a British Blues band.

August 2009 saw the release of their amazing debut album ~ available at gigs & iTunes

(You may know drummer Dave Innes, he played regularly with The Robin Bibi Band & Electric Experience among others, when he was based in London)

Music Profile: Nigel Bunner

nigel bunner

Kingston connection
Have lived here for a number of years and been majorly involved in the local music scene for a while too.
I am
Part of the band Sugardrum…

Sugardrum are Nigel, Lisa, Danielle and Matt. Between them they sing and play story telling songs using beautiful vocals, fingerpicking acoustic guitar, cello, glockenspiel and percussion.

Sometimes they are also joined on stage and in recording land by various friends from the Wupadupa collective for fun and productive musical collaborations.

inspiration
Lots of lovely music and people.
highlights
Well, my favourite so far was probably a small unplugged and intimate guerilla gig we did in the woods at End of the Road festival. We just started playing some songs to no-one, and five songs or so later had a small crowd gathered around us listening on our every word. It was a very special and magical moment.
looking forward
A gig at a beautiful old house in Totnes and some nice house gigs in Cornwall afterwards, then recording some new songs and some more tours and festival dates next year.

1984 @ The Rose Theatre

Our pick of the month is: 1984

26 October – 30 October
By George Orwell
Adapted by Nick Lane
Directed by Conrad Nelson

A Northern Broadsides/Dukes, Lancaster Production in association with Stroud Theatre Company

WAR IS PEACE
FREEDOM IS SLAVERY
IGNORANCE IS STRENGTH

In a totalitarian world at war, Big Brother watches over all and the Thought Police rule with an iron fist.

A solitary figure, Winston Smith, clings to a vision of a different future. What begins as an act of rebellion and hope quickly descends into a nightmare of doomed love, personal betrayal and the terrors of Room 101.

From the lies of the Ministry of Truth to the blind hysteria of the Two Minutes Hate, the manipulation of Doublethink, Newspeak and the capital offence of Thoughtcrime, George Orwell’s stark futuristic vision pulls no punches, and resonates now more than ever.

Following on from the public and critical success of Othello, Romeo and Juliet and most recently The Canterbury Tales, director Conrad Nelson brings yet another classic to the Rose, together with his trademark energy, ear for language and instinct for every pulse, nerve and sinew within the script.
